Version 3.0. Effective 2 November 2026.
In short
- Pickup does not sell insurance. Pickup Charter is a booking platform. We do not provide, sell or arrange insurance of any kind, and none is included in the price of a booking.
- Your operator holds the insurance. Every trip is run by an independent licensed operator, which must hold its own commercial insurance. We check the documents before a listing goes live and suspend any listing whose policy expires. We do not check every term or limit, and we cannot promise an insurer will accept a claim.
- Ask before you travel. You can ask the operator for its policy details in the app before your trip.
- Claims go to the operator and its insurer, not to Pickup, unless Pickup's own acts caused the loss. After an injury or severe property damage, we give the claimant the operator's insurance certificate details and share the booking records you need.
This summary is for convenience only. The numbered clauses below govern.
1. Pickup's position
1.1 Pickup Technology Limited (RC 9548096), Lekki Phase 1, Lagos State, Nigeria, trading as Pickup Charter ("Pickup", "we"), runs a booking platform. Transport is provided by independent licensed operators ("Operators"), who hold their own commercial insurance.
1.2 Pickup is not an insurer, an insurance broker or an insurance agent, and is not licensed by the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) as any of them. We check Operators' insurance documents, but we do not provide, sell or arrange insurance for Guests, Operators or crew. We do not collect any premium, receive any commission from an insurer, or recommend an insurer, we name no insurer on the Platform, and nothing on the Platform is an offer of insurance or advice about insurance.
1.3 No part of the Total Price, the service fee or any other amount you pay to Pickup pays for insurance.
1.4 Pickup's cancellation, refund and dispute rules, including the Major Disruptive Events Policy, are rules about how bookings work. They are not insurance, a guarantee or a warranty.
1.5 This page uses capitalised words as defined in the Guest Terms and forms part of them.
2. Operators' insurance
2.1 Every Operator must hold, for every listed asset, insurance written for commercial passenger carriage, not private use, with an insurer licensed by NAICOM. It is a condition of listing: no insurance, no listing. The minimums are:
| Service | Insurance the Operator must hold |
|---|---|
| Luxury tier chauffeur driven cars | A comprehensive commercial motor policy (hire and reward) that covers passengers |
| Standard chauffeur driven cars | A motor policy written for commercial use (hire and reward) with a passenger endorsement, and at least the third party cover the Motor Vehicles (Third Party Insurance) Act requires. Private use policies are not accepted |
| Crewed boats and yachts | Marine insurance for passenger liability, third party liability and hull |
| Private jet charter | The insurance the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) requires of Air Operator's Certificate holders, complying with the Montreal Convention as applied by the Civil Aviation Act 2022, including passenger liability and third party liability |
2.2 We check the policy document, the basis of the policy and its expiry date before a listing goes live, and record the expiry date. A daily check suspends any listing whose policy has expired until a valid renewal is checked. The Verification and Compliance standard sets out the checks.
2.3 Our check confirms that a policy document exists and is on the right basis at the time of the check. We do not check every policy term, limit or exclusion. We cannot promise that an Operator's insurer will accept a claim, or that the policy is enough for a particular loss.
2.4 Each listing shows that the Operator's insurance has been checked. It does not show the insurer or the policy limits.
2.5 Operators, not Pickup, are responsible for any insurance and employees' compensation the law requires for their chauffeurs and crew.
3. Asking for policy details
3.1 Before your trip, you can ask the Operator in the app for details of its policy, including the insurer and what the policy provides for passengers. Keep this conversation in the app so there is a record of it.
3.2 If the Operator does not give you those details within 24 hours of your request, use Talk to a person in Profile > Help and we ask the Operator to respond. If it still does not respond before the trip, we cancel the Booking for a full refund if you ask us to.
4. Making a claim
4.1 In an emergency, call 112 first. In-app safety features are secondary information tools and do not constitute an emergency response service. Pickup does not guarantee continuous, uninterrupted live monitoring, and automated prompts do not shift emergency response duties away from public authorities. In an emergency, call 112.
4.2 A claim for injury, loss or damage arising from a trip is made against the Operator and its insurer, not against Pickup. The Operator is the carrier and must notify its insurer promptly.
4.3 Report the incident to us in the app as soon as you can. We then:
(a) keep the trip record, including times, route and in app messages, for at least the period in the Privacy Policy and for as long as a claim is live; (b) after an injury or severe property damage, give the claimant the Operator's insurance certificate details, so that they can claim directly; (c) share the booking records you need to support your claim with you, the Operator and its insurer, in line with the Privacy Policy; and (d) ask the Operator to deal with your claim in good faith and to respond to you in the app.
The Dispute Resolution policy explains how this works.
4.4 Pickup does not decide insurance claims, and an insurer's decision is not a Pickup decision. A claim against Pickup for its own acts follows the Guest Terms.
5. Your own insurance
5.1 You may want your own travel, personal accident or property insurance, particularly if you are visiting Nigeria. Pickup does not give advice on insurance.
6. Your other rights
6.1 Nothing on this page limits any right you have under the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2018 or any other law that cannot be excluded, or any liability Pickup has that the law does not allow it to exclude.
7. Changes
7.1 Any change to this page is notified at least 30 days ahead by email and in the app, or at once where the law or safety requires it, and never applies to a Booking already confirmed.
