Looking after the car, boat or aircraft

Simple ways to avoid damage claims: what to check when you board, good practice on board, and what to do if something happens.

The cars, boats, yachts and aircraft on Pickup belong to independent operators. You are responsible for damage you or your guests cause during your trip, so a little care goes a long way.

Good practice

  • Keep food and drink to what the operator allows. Ask first if you are unsure.
  • Do not smoke or vape unless the operator has confirmed it is permitted.
  • Keep feet off seats and upholstery.
  • Supervise children and keep sharp or staining items packed away.
  • On vessels, follow the crew on where to walk, sit and store bags. Wet or sandy gear stays where the crew directs.
  • On aircraft, follow the crew's instructions on cabin use and stowage.

Check before and after

  1. When you board, look around. If you see existing damage or a mess, tell your chauffeur or crew and note it in Messages with a photo.
  2. Before you leave, check for belongings and anything spilled or broken.
  3. If something happens, tell the crew straight away rather than leaving it to be found later.

A clear record at the start and end of a trip protects you if a claim is raised.

If damage happens

Report it honestly. Your operator may raise a damage claim through Pickup, which is assessed on evidence and can be disputed. See What to do if you damage a car, boat or jet and How damage claims are assessed.
