You run an independent business. Pickup is a technology marketplace, not your employer, so you are responsible for tax on your own revenue and your business records.
What you are responsible for
- Registering your business and keeping your CAC details current.
- Holding a valid Tax Identification Number. You add it in Company documents at sign up.
- Adding your VAT number under Tax info, if your company is registered for VAT.
- Declaring and paying tax on your earnings, including any VAT that applies to your services.
- Keeping records that support your returns.
Pickup cannot give tax advice. Speak to a qualified accountant about your situation.
Records Pickup gives you
Every booking and payout is recorded in the app:
- Open Menu, then Earnings, then Earnings settings.
- Tap Monthly statement and choose the month.
- Download it as a PDF or CSV, or have it emailed to you.
Your monthly statement shows your gross booking value, the commission, the VAT inside the commission, and Pickup's TIN. Tax info also holds your Tax invoices and any Withholding tax receipts. Pickup keeps financial records, booking ledgers and tax invoices for 5 years.
Commission is a cost of your business
The commission Pickup deducts, at the rates in your Fee Schedule, is a fee for using the marketplace. It already includes VAT, and nothing is added on top. Your accountant can advise how to treat it.
Tax Pickup may collect or withhold
- Withholding tax. Where the law requires, Pickup withholds tax from your payouts and remits it, unless you give a valid exemption. The receipt appears under Tax info.
- VAT. If the Nigeria Revenue Service designates Pickup as a collection agent, Pickup will collect and remit as directed.
We may hold payouts until your tax details are complete.
