What happens if my boat trip is cut short?

The captain may return early for weather, daylight or safety. When you may be eligible for a refund and when you are not.

On the water, the captain has final authority on safety. The captain may delay departure, change the area of operation, return to the jetty early to stay in daylight, or decline to sail because of weather or water conditions.

If weather or a directive ends the trip

If the captain cancels before the start for weather or safety, you get a full refund, or you can move to another date if one is offered. If weather, water conditions or an authority's directive cuts the trip short, you are refunded for the time not delivered once the trip ends. The amount shows on your receipt. See the Cancellation and Refund Policy.

If the trip ends because of a guest's conduct

If the crew end the trip because a guest seriously breaks the rules, for example refusing to wear a life jacket, exceeding the capacity or behaving unsafely, no refund is due for the part not delivered. Pickup checks what happened. See the Community Standards.

Daylight hours

Boat trips run in daylight only. If your trip starts late, the captain may still need to return before sunset. Book with enough daylight for your plans. See Planning a day on the water in Lagos.

What to do

  1. Follow the captain's instructions first.
  2. Once you are back on shore, check the trip in Trips. It closes with the actual end time.
  3. If you think the refund is wrong, tap Report a problem with this trip. See How to raise a dispute.
