Do I have to carry a guest with an assistance animal?

Your duty to carry assistance animals, how they differ from pets and comfort animals, and what to do on boats and aircraft where extra rules apply.

Yes. You must carry a guest's assistance animal, such as a guide dog, free of charge, as the Service Animal Policy requires.

Assistance animals and pets are different

  • Assistance animals are trained to help a person with a disability. Carry them without an extra charge.
  • Pets and comfort animals are not assistance animals. Whether you carry them is up to you, and your listing rules should say so. Pets allowed is one of your listing rules. Any pet or cleaning charge must be shown before the guest books.

Boats and aircraft

Safety rules may limit where an animal can be on a vessel, and aviation rules apply on aircraft. If a notified need cannot be met safely, decline before you accept the booking and explain why.

Allergies and cleaning

If a crew member has a genuine allergy, assign another verified crew member where you can. Normal hair or cleaning after an assistance animal is not a cleaning charge. Damage or exceptional soiling may be, under Cleaning charges.
