A car on Pickup Charter carries paying guests, so it must be licensed for commercial hire. Pickup checks each document you upload at review and tracks its expiry once your listing is live. You stay responsible for every licence the law requires.
Your operator licence
You must hold your own commercial transport and vehicle licences for your fleet. When you sign up, the app asks for your Commercial vehicle licence and, if you have it, your Lagos transport operator registration.
Documents for each car
The app asks for:
- Hackney permit.
- Vehicle licence.
- Roadworthiness certificate. A new car is certified after 6 months of use; any other car is recertified every 6 months.
- Commercial insurance. Your own policy, written for hire and reward. Luxury cars need comprehensive cover, and standard cars need a hire and reward passenger endorsement. This is a hard gate.
- Proof of ownership or lease (optional).
You must also be able to provide:
- Commercial registration, and your Lagos permit.
- Tracking device data.
- Inspection logs.
- The vehicle tag.
Lagos rules also limit a car's age: no more than 3 years from manufacture when first listed, and no more than 10 years while listed. You are responsible for meeting them.
Documents for each chauffeur
Every chauffeur you assign must be verified on Your crew, with:
- An NIN check with a live selfie match.
- A valid FRSC driver's licence.
- A photo.
- Your confirmation, as the operator, that the chauffeur works for you.
- An age of 21 or over, and Nigerian citizenship.
- The ability to read and write.
The LASDRI card is optional for now. Add it when you have it. We will tell you before it becomes required.
Chauffeurs must never solicit or accept a street hail. Only verified chauffeurs can be assigned to a booking. See Adding chauffeurs and crew.
Lagos Service Entity Permit
Car operators in Lagos work under Pickup's Service Entity Permit in the chauffeur hire category, not ride hailing. Regulatory Information gives the permit's exact category and current status. It does not replace your own commercial transport and vehicle licences.
Driving hours
The law limits how long a chauffeur may drive: no more than 5 and a half hours without a break, and no more than 10 and a half hours in any 24 hours. For a full day or a long booking, plan breaks within both limits.
Uploading your documents
- Open Listings, choose the listing and tap Licence and documents.
- Upload a clear scan or photo of each document, with its Valid until date. Check that names, plate numbers and expiry dates are readable.
- A new listing stays in review until the documents are checked. A live one stays live while we check a new upload.
When a document expires
A daily check pauses any listing whose document has expired, and cancels its upcoming bookings. Renew early and upload the new document before the old one lapses. See Keeping documents current.
