Insurance you must carry

The commercial insurance each Pickup operator must hold for cars, boats and jets, why it is a hard gate, and why Pickup itself does not sell insurance.

2 min readUpdated 2 November 2026For operators

Your own commercial insurance is a hard gate. No listing goes live without a valid certificate on file, and it must stay valid for as long as the listing is live. Pickup checks the documents, doesn't sell insurance and names no insurer.

What each vertical needs

  • Luxury cars: comprehensive commercial cover. Charter Elite also needs comprehensive cover on every car. See Charter Elite.
  • Standard cars: a motor policy for hire and reward, with a passenger endorsement. A private use policy is not accepted. A fleet policy or per vehicle cover can work, as long as each listed car is covered.
  • Vessels: marine insurance with passenger liability and hull cover for each vessel.
  • Aircraft: aircraft insurance that complies with the Montreal Convention.

Your cover must meet the law and the terms in your Operator Agreement.

Uploading your certificate

  1. Open Listings, choose the listing and tap Licence and documents.
  2. Upload the current certificate, with its Valid until date. Make sure the insured name, asset, cover type and expiry date are readable.
  3. We check it. A live listing stays live while we do.

Keeping it valid

  • Renew before the expiry date and upload the new certificate straight away.
  • If your insurance expires, the listing is paused and its upcoming bookings are cancelled.
  • Tell your insurer your asset is used on a marketplace for hire and reward. Undisclosed commercial use can put a claim at risk.

Pickup does not insure your trips

Pickup Charter is a booking platform. It does not provide, sell or arrange insurance. Your own policy is the cover for every trip you deliver. Guests may ask you for your policy details before a trip. If a guest or a third party makes a claim for damage or injury, it is made against your insurer. After an injury or severe property damage, Pickup gives the claimant your insurance certificate details, and shares booking records to support a claim. See Insurance Information.
